SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Please read through this entire page. There is important information all the way to the end.
Thank you for your interest in submitting a manuscript to The Seshet Agency. Please review the guidelines below, and follow them precisely when you submit a query or manuscript. Failure to follow the instructions can (and probably will) result in your submission being lost or ignored. If you have questions about the Query process, please send an email to Laura@SeshetAgency.com with "Query Question" in the subject line.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
If You Are Submitting a Query:

  1. Address your query to "Laura." Queries addressed simply to the attention of “Sir/ Madam” or “Editor” or “Agent” will not receive a response.
  2. Please send all first queries to me via email at Laura@SeshetAgency.com. It is easier for me to track and follow-up and it helps insure that you will receive the best service possible. The subject line of your email should read “Query: BOOK TITLE” where “BOOK TITLE” is replaced by the title of your manuscript.
  3. Unless they are requested, I do not accept any sort of attachments or downloads. This includes Word files, pictures, contacts, PDFs, data files etc… In addition, please DO NOT provide links to websites or Flash content.
  4. All queries should include a short (300 words or fewer) pitch for your book. This pitch should read like the back cover or inside dust jacket copy of a published book.
  5. Please provide a brief author bio, which should include your professional credentials and list of publications if applicable. Please note that this is necessary even if you are simply submitting a work of fiction - I still want to know a little bit about you and your platform.
  6. Please do not call to see if I received your query. I assure you that I will respond to your query as soon as I am able and in the order in which it was received.

If I Have Requested a Proposal or Writing Sample:
Submissions by Email (PREFERRED)

  1. When sending your email submission, in the email subject line, type "Requested Material" and the title of your manuscript.
  2. Make sure you also include the Requested Materials code included in my response to your query.
  3. The name of your MS Word or WordPerfect file should be your last name underscore (hold down the SHIFT key while pressing the HYPHEN or DASH – probably to the right of the Zero on your keyboard), and an abbreviated title for your manuscript. In other words, if your name is John Smith, and you are sending me a manuscript called She Was a Kansas Whirlwind, your MS Word file title might be smith_kansaswhirlwind.
  4. Attach the requested materials, and cut / copy and paste your original query message at the bottom of your new email message to me.
  5. Make sure the manuscript is formatted appropriately:
  • 12 point Courier or Times New Roman font
  • Double spaced, no extra space between paragraphs, standard paragraph indents
  • “Unjustified” alignment
  • 1” Top, Left, Right and Bottom margins
  • All pages should be consecutively numbered
  • Each page should include either a Header or a Footer that contains the author’s
name and the title of the manuscript

Submissions by “Snail Mail”

  1. Mark the outside of your package "Requested Materials," and make sure you include the Requested Materials code included in my response to your query (otherwise it will be discarded).
  2. Enclose a copy of your original query along with your email address and your manuscript or manuscript pages.
  3. Even if you include a SASE, I will reply to your query via email (unless you do not have an email address). There are many free email providers out there, and I strongly encourage you to look into one of them as it makes communication much easier and more efficient. Should you need your submitted materials returned to you, make sure that the included SASE is marked with sufficient postage.
  4. Please send copies only – NO ORIGINALS. I will not be responsible for any materials sent to my office. If you do not send appropriately self-addressed envelopes marked with the correct postage, your submission will not be returned.
  5. All submissions MUST be in complete standard manuscript form:
  • 12 point Courier or Times New Roman font
  • Double spaced, no extra space between paragraphs, standard paragraph indents
  • “Unjustified” alignment
  • 1” Top, Left, Right and Bottom margins
  • All pages should be consecutively numbered
  • Each page should include either a Header or a Footer that contains the author’s
name and the title of the manuscript

Final Notes:
Please do a little research before submitting your query. There are several wonderful books by any number of great authors that explain how to write query letters and provide excellent information about the publishing process.

I very much appreciate authors following up, and I sympathize with your enthusiasm and desire to know what I think. However, please do give me at least ten days before following up regarding a query, and three weeks regarding a submission. In addition, please try to understand that I simply do not have the time or resources to give you a full assessment of your work if I do not intend to represent it.

Thank you for your interest.
Best Wishes and Fine Words
