Frequently Asked Questions
Below are lists of the questions we are asked most frequently here at the Seshet agency. If you do not see your question answered below, send an email to Laura@SeshetAgency.com with Question in the subject line.

Writer Questions

Q: Do you charge reading or evaluation fees?
A: NO. Agents should not charge you fees simply to review your work, nor should they charge you editorial fees if they are representing your work. If your book needs a significant quantity of editing and your agent is unwilling to do it without charging you fees, you need to find an editor, and then find another agent.

Q: Can I just pay you to edit my book?
A: No. The Seshet Agency does not take on novels or nonfiction books as editorial projects because it presents an ethical conflict of interest.

Q: What editing CAN you do for me?
A: If you need help cleaning up your short stories (for magazine, e-zine or other submission), blog entries, editorials, columns, magazine articles or other short pieces, I will be happy to help you edit those. My rate varies for these services.

Q: Do you represent previously unpublished authors?
A: Yes - absolutely. We welcome authors of all levels of experience and across several genres.

Q: What do you charge for representation?
A: We receive a 15% commission on domestic sales, split a 20% commission on film sales, and split a 20% commission on international sales. In addition, we charge modest market rates for administrative work such as international phone calls, copying, and postage and handling.

Business Questions

Q: Do you accept work from businesses outside of your geographic area?
A: Yes. If you send me the work via email or express mailing service, I will gladly complete the work and send it back to you.

Q: How do you charge for your services?
A: We charge in a variety of different ways, depending on the project. We can charge by the hour, the page or the project.

Q: Your services list included "web content development." Does that mean you are a web designer?
A: No. While I can help with web concept development and strategy, and have some design experience, I am not a web designer. My focus on your website would be with regard to helping you determine what kinds of content belongs there, where each type of content should appear on the site, how the content should be presented, how often it needs to be updated, and who should be managing it. I would also provide you (should you ask me to do so) with the intial content for each section, in accordance with your company's mission, vision and voice.
