ABOUT THE SESHET AGENCY
What Seshet Means
The name is pronounced SEH-sheht. In Egyptian mythology, Seshet
(or Seshat) was wife to Thoth and known as the "First Lady of Libraries."
While Egyptian women were very seldom taught to read and write, Seshet
was scribe to the pantheon, was tasked with many important recording
tasks, and was a patron of the arts. Her name comes from the word "sesh,"
which means both "to write" and "scribe," with the
"-et" ending indicating the feminine. The agency's logo is
taken from the headdress the goddess is depicted wearing.
